Default yellowing of door trim

i have a white 2000 gs400 and the plastic-rubber molding that is at the bottom of the doors is turning yellow. im talking about the half inch strip that is attached to the bottom of the doors. does anyone else have this problem. the car is hardly ever exposed to sunlight so i dont know what is causing this.

When I purchased my GS400 back in 1999 I had the same problem except I had various yellow spot down along the bottom of the passenger door. They replaced the entire panel. I have noticed yellow spots on my bumper.....it seems that the paint really discolors easily, wonder why.

I have the same problem with my car. Does the thin trim at the bottom of the door come painted? How do you remove/install it?

I hate the way it looks, I am going to call Lexus corporate and complain but I don't know what good it will do. My car is 700 miles out of warranty and they will probably tell me to go scratch. My dealer told me it is normal because the paint on the plastic panels is different and resists scratches and chips. I asked why the pearl white cars are the only ones that experience this problem and he could not provide a logical answer other than the fact that white is the most difficult color to match. I will repost something here if I get some good news from Lexus. If not I will just have a local body shop repaint it. I HATE how it looks !!

Copout221: Since your car is "just out of warranty" you're in luck!
Lexus will provide a "good will" fix for you. The panels can also be ordered painted from Lexus! Everything will come painted directly from Lexus including the door lowers, the trim edge that runs along the bottom of the doors, and the rocker panels.
The only parts that do not come painted are the front and rear bumpers.
I wish Lexus would offer me this, but my car is a 98, I'm waaaay over on the miles, and I service it myself so they haven't seen a dollar from me yet.

My 99 GS300 does the same thing, a lot of people ask if it has been in a wreck because they see the 2 different colors.. it really pisses me off.

I spoke with my service associate Paul Tuffner from Mcgrath Lexus in Westmont Illinois and explained the yellowing on the plastic panels just below the chrome strip. He told me he would talk to his boss and get back to me. Later in the day (11/25/02) he called back and told my wife the problem would be taken care of by Lexus and that he would call me to arrange a date to drop the car off. He even told her that he was going to give me a loaner to drive for the week the car will be down. Now that is service !! Mcgrath has not given me one problem with my complaints and has always stood behind their product. I owned a 3 series BMW in 1997 and had to fight with the dealer over every warranty item I wanted fixed. Lexus service has really impressed me up to this point. Hopefully this will always be the case. I will post an update when my car is fixed to let everyone know how it looks.
