lx470 shocks
Has anyone here either had their shocks replaced by Lexus, or done it theirselves on a LX470? Mine has 84K on it, and the ride is getting progressively worse. It looks like a simple shock set-up, except for the hydraulic line. I'm really looking for advice from someone that's done it theirselves or has a manual to advise me, as I'm a D-I-Y'er for the most part. Any advice???

BE VERY VERY CAREFULL!
Unless they are leaking, dont replace them. The LX470 has hydraulic rams, not shocks. What cushions the ride is the Nitrogen ***** that are mounted to the frame rail. They can leak and colapse. The only external sign of this is contaminated suspension fluid. The ***** themselves can be removed and inspected, but the high pressure must be discharged first. I would not recommend any DIY replacement unless your a tech and know what your doing.
Good Luck!

So what are my options here? The ride is still soft, but it just seems that it just has a lot of "rock" back and forth after a good bump in the road. I don't really remember what the other LX470's rode like when I was test driving - is this rocking characteristic on these? Thanks for the reply. I've owned Toyota's all my life and know those up and down - this Lexus just has a lot of extra features I haven't run into before. This club definently has been the best source of information for me!

Without looking at the truck myself, I'd replace the 4 nitrogen *****. Based on your description, this is my best guess. At least get an estimate from your local dealership. Or at least ask them to diagnose the truck for you.
BTW: Those rear shocks are a MF to replace.

I have looked them over and do agree they don't look like much fun to replace at all. To those that have replaced them, it looks like just a regular shock with the hydraulic line running into them. Is it that simple, or is there more to it. I assume the system would have to be bled, correct?

well, I don't own a LX470 but I do know Tokico makes shocks for it. Perhaps you could check out the link
