Thanks, on a 07' IS350 where exactly is the throttle position sensor? It looks like everything is contained within the throttle plate. There is only a connector on the right side with a five wire connector on it. What pins do I put the multimeter on? I know on old cars it was a seperate unit that you loosened and turned to change the settings but this is much different from anything I have worked on before. Can you adjust the TPS setting on this car or does the entire throttle body have to be replaced if in fact this is the problem?

I appreciate your help in walking me thru this.

There are absolutely no adjustments that can be made. If a value was out of spec, it would set a code, plain and simple. I have no idea why you are seeing the concerns you are, but the system is very simple, there is a sensor on the pedal, and a motor in the throttle body. There is no kick down cable or simiilar item. The same value the ECU sees for how much throttle youre asking for, is the same value it uses to determine shifting. I am still wondering if you are using the ECT button or not, as this would make a huge difference in throttle response.

The switch is not in Power or Snow mode. So I guess it is in ECT mode. Should it be set to Power all the time?

If you turn on the ECT Power.. you will feel a noticeable difference in throttle response. If you had the car set to this setting prior to messing with it, then it was turned off by default after disconnecting the battery, you will absolutely feel the difference. It doesnt make the car faster, it just changes how the ECU responds to throttle input.

Update. Reset computer and did the recommended procedure with parking brake on in idle, switched car into ECT Power and took it out for a spirited trip. Runs much better and car finds the right gear with ease now. Didnt try ECT setting to see if power and downshift problems are still there but runs good. Think I'll just drive in power mode. Thanks guys!

Glad to hear its resolved. Im willing to bet you always had it in ECT Power mode, and when you disconnected the battery it reverted to "normal" mode. This will definitely screw with you as far as your perceptions and feelings of the car. But im glad its working the way you want now!

One more question for you. Is that the procedure for resetting the throttle body by starting the car with the parking brake already on and letting it warm up. Then alternate putting it in reverse and drive and cycling the a/c off and on? Just curious. Is that how Lexus does it just in case somebody has to have a brand new throttle body put on? Is there a special frequency between the switch on the gas pedal and throttle body or are all cars the same. Does Lexus do anything with their TechStream system after they bolt on the new throttle body to get it set properly?

Thanks.
