I'm going to replace my 97 ES factory radio with a 2000 ES (w/ wooden face). I know that unplugging the radio will disable it until a master/security code is re-entered. I have the instructions for doing this but I'm not sure if I have the right code. The instructions claim that the code for 1993 and above ES radios is either 841960 or 841860.

Are there any Lexus techs/experts out there that can verify which of these codes is correct or, if neither is right, be willing to provide the correct one(s) for both the 97 & 2000 model years? Lexus wants $175 to do it, sheesh!

I think your way off track here. The 1997 and 2000 ES300 dont use radio codes. So dont worry about it!

If they don't use codes then what exactly is the "theft deterrent design" built into the radio?

The radio is designed to only fit and work in a lexus. I'm sure that some radio guru could make it work, but thats the deal.
