1999 gs300 radiator leak and overheating

Okay, so a week after my t-belt, t- stat, 90k service, blah blah, I develop a leak at the top of my radiator. My temp gauge stays at normal reading, but there is light steam, and the smell. Autozone wanted $144, but I ordered a Denso off rockauto for $76. It should be here in a 3-4 days. In the mean time, I am going to use sealant all around the top until the new one arrives. Does this happen usually happen when new cooling parts are replaced? Btw, I just replaced the radiator cap a few days ago. Maybe the new waterpump, new cap and the pressure made the top lose it's seal? My car is a 99 G3.

My 93 SC400 suddenly had the coolant smell and overheated. I could see the vapor coming from under the hood. After inspection I saw the PO had installed one of those back flush taps onto the heater hose (behind the throttle body) which had completely disintegrated. I hate those things. So if you aren't the original owner you might check for this as the source of the massive leak.
