True or False? Lexus doesn't make new alternators
The dealership said that Lexus does not make new alternators for the 93 SC400 and all they have are remanufactured ones. I find this very hard to believe....especially how common it is for them to go out (due to leaky power steering pump). Is this true? They want $600 for a remanufactured alternator. I know parts are expensive for these cars but that's insane!

LOL, correct me if I'm wrong, but I don't think Lexus makes them.

Why not just get an upgraded Alternator? Check this out:

If my alternator goes out I will simply get one of those.

Ijsut recently replaced my alt. I got a remaufacted one from Boseh(sp?) it was 200$+ core. It took me about 3 days to find an Autoparts store than had the correct one for the SC.

That was off there website for the partial upgrade. SC 400 have a serpentine belt so, I do not know if it would actually be compatable. Do the Supras have a serpentine belt or a separate belt driving the alt? I don't recall them having a serpentine belt. Another thing is that I do not think it would necessarily be needed. You can get adjustable alternator regulator from any alternator shop. I think it would do more or less the same.

If it is, please keep an eye out for it overcharging the battery. They are known to do that.

I replaced the alternator on my '93 SC4 this past summer, it's a 150 amp Denso, brand new in the box, part # 210 0171, $542.76 and your old core. Your lexus dealer is selling you a rebuild for the price of new, the margins are huge, he probably pays $150 for the reman (core value is $50) and remans DON'T get full rebuilds - they just replace the worn-out parts, megger the stator, bake & varnish.
Your dealer is reaming you. He may not be able to get a new unit from Toyota, but he sure can get it from Denso.
Take your business elsewhere.
