Default funky smelling A/C?

hey my A/C is giving off some horrid smells, like super old and moldy smells. I'm guessing i got this cuz i have to park outside cuz my lex isnt allowed in the garage due to lack of space...but does anyone know what i am talking about or how to get rid of the smell?

Select "fresh" manually with your recirc button and leave it there. Sometimes the air gets funky if it's left on "recirc" all the time.

It happens to most cars with A/C units. Just select regular air from the outside instead of recirculation and blow it on a high level and the smell will go away after a while...

Boris,

I'm moving your thread to the Automotive Care & Detailing section because I seem to remember Daddy-O having some very good suggestions on past threads for this exact problem. Don't have time to search for them myself right now, but you might want to if he doesn't answer first .

This is a maintenance topic, as there are A/C maintenance services available to alleviate this problem. Your A/C system has become a home for micro-organisms. It's damp interior can provide a habitat for these bacteria and fungi.

My local toyota dealer has a $39.95 foaming fungicide/bactericide spray service. They pump the foam into the system through the A/C drain and through the car vents. There also are foaming sprays and other products you can buy for a DIY approach.

There are a number of previous posts regarding this subject. Here's a CL search on the term "a/c odor".

Good luck

I spray Lysol into my air vents on the outside of the car for about 5 minutes with the air on hot. You should also do this, just before leaving the car for about 30 seconds. Should take care of the problem.
