"Braking" and Brakes Question
Hi guys,
I replaced my brakes about 2 months ago and did not hear anymore squeeks. Until last week I started hearing it again and decided to see my mechanic. He took out my rear rotors and resurfaced it. The squeeking has gone down tremendously and I am happy.
However I still hear a lil bit of sqeeking sounds. My mechanic says I should change the way I break. In that I usually brake a little bit and then release the brake and then step a little more to a slowing stop. He recommends me just stepping on it and not depressing until it stops. WHat do you guys think? The sqeeking sounds are pissing me off because this car aint cheap and shouldn't be doing this...
thanks
Bryan

Hi Bryan,
I hear you on the squeaking issue of the rear brakes. Have you checked the rear E-brake system? That's the only other thing I can think of that could cause this squeaking. I had it a while ago on my '96 ES. I brought it to Midas, and the service guy told me the E-brake area in the rear brakes needs some serious cleaning, lots of gunk, dust and other crap in there. After they did that, and since then, I don't hear any more squeaking from my car thankfully. Have your mechanic check out the rear emergency brake system. Good luck!

Check your brake shims.
Thsoe are the thin metal pieces between the caliper and the pad. Those are the most common cause of brake squeal.
You have 3 options -
- replace them (they will warp and squeal eventually again)
- remove them
- use anti-squeal goo between the shim and the rear of the pad. (temporary.. lasts about 2 months)
