Grinding pulse when stopping - bearings? (I've been told...) HELP
Hi all
First of all, thanks to eveyone who's given helpful feedback in the past. I love this forum.
I just got a 98 GS300 with 40k. When I slowly come to a stop I get this pulsing/grinding sound coming from my left wheel. I took it in today and they told me that they had already replaced the pads and smoothed the rotors. They took a look and said it's the Front Wheel Bearings. I'm a little confused because most of what I've read here and elsewhere is that bad bearings make more sound as you accelerate - I don't hear anything while driving, only when stopping. Could it be just the beginning of the problem.
Are they right?
What could cause this at only 40k?
Thanks big time

normally the wheel bearings do get louder as you drive, but if you have used this dealer in the past, take their word for it or go to another mechanic for another opinion. mine went out and it got louder as i kept driving. another opinion is priceless. one lexus mechanic told me in writing that i needed an o-ring, and my auto does not have an o-ring. so 2nd opinions are the best way to go.

Check the wear on your tire, sometimes the tire can cause that grinding noise when you come to almost complete stop. Any uneven wear on the tires can cause the same noise. If you have a bad wheel bearing it will makes noise when you turn or in the high speed.
