Unhappy fan switch problems

the power bars on my fan/ac only have two settings OFF and FULL BLAST! does anyone know how to get it so that the bars in the middle work as well? and i was wondering how to set the auto function when you press the climate control button

thanks in advance

You have a bad blower motor resistor. It goes through the resistor to "resist" current flow providing a slower blower speed. On FULL BLAST it does not go through the resistor.

From what I can see on the repair manual, there are two components that control fan speed. One is the "A/C power transistor" that drives the blower motor that drives the blower through a (one) blower resistor and the other is the "extra high speed relay" that is in parallel to the power transistor.

I would guess that the "AC power transistor" or the blower resistor is toast and the "extra high speed relay" is the one that turns the fan on high speed. Both of these inputs are being driven by the A/C control assembly so it could also be the problem.

could you put that in simplier form?

The power Transistor or the blower motor resistor is were I would look. Email me if you want the entire picture, had to crop it to met download size limitations.

You can measure the resistance across the Blower motor resistor, if it is open replace it. If it is OK, I would replace the Power Transistor assembly.

Good luck
