our lexus tranny uses only toyota type 4 fluid...they said if you switch to anything else it would harm the trans....how ever im sure they were speaking about regular toyota type 4...how ever there may be a synth that is approved for our car...but i would just keep it with the type 4 fluid if i were you...but again to each his own...im just saying this because i know of lexus owners who have 300,000 to 400,000 miles on their cars and they use regular fluids...if most of us get to 300,000 miles on our cars we will be extremely happy..so i see no need to change from regular to synth...but again to each his own.

I used to use a MT-90/MTL mix or MT-90 itself in a mazda mx-6.. it was great stuff but the only reason why I used this was because other synthetic gear oils contain sulphur, which would eat up the brass bearings in the transmission of that specific car.. I dunno if this would apply to the SC though..oh btw, this is for 5-speed, mt-90 is a gear oil, not for automatics..

I was told by my Toyota mechanics that any synthetic was okay to use in our 5 speeds. As long as it apporimates the smae weight oil, it will work so MT-90 is okay. I am running it and smoothed out my sometimes notchy third gear. Just what I was told by my co workers at Superior Toyota in Erie. I worked there for a year and a half and trust their toyota master mechanic opinions.

I changed my tranny fluid with castrol sythetic last year and I noticed a small improvement. I noticed its being a little rough lately though so I plan to try the redline within the next couple of months.

I haven't heard anything bad about using the redline on our transmissions.
