My water cooled Pcar requires 6 quarts, the air cooled engine on the 911 series use the oil to cool the engines and have over 13 liters of oil.

Every 10,000 with a oil analysis at 5000. I use Amsoil 0-30. check out www.bobistheoilguy.com Some of the best info you'll find concerning lubrication and filters.

Yes I believe it needs valve seals. I'm gonna get it repaired soon.
I know what you mean! First 30K Dealer Service, they did over fill my engine, not sure if it was a quart, but my mechanic was shocked to find out how they could over fill the engine and call themselves Lexus Mechanic! Took the car back to the dealer and all things were resolved!

But check your oil EVERYTIME you fill your gas tank

AMEN Brother!

I got mine changed every 5K. Believe it or not, if you walk into any UHAUL moving company, ask them how often they change oil and get their hauling moving renting truck serviced? YUP, you got it, 5K! I worked @ Uhaul for 3 years through college, I know this for facts and trust me, these trucks aren't Lexus, they are Chevy, Ford, GMC, which are running upto 100K before Uhaul resell them out. These trucks get abused beyond your imagination, since not everyone own a 24 Footer with a 12 Ft Auto Transporter hitched behind to go cross country and back? And when the truck gets its service, it won't get the most expensive oil either, quite the opposite... 5000 MILES! OK!

Lesson to all, If Uhaul can do it, you can do it too! the 1K or 2K, even 2.5K is too much, almost like "dumb and dumber" 's deal.... j/k

Plus, the new engine is built with new tech. Self-cleaning, self-maintainance!

Last: Anyone still try to "warm up" your lex before you drive? Don't need to that either, man, that's soo old school! We all have fueld injection nowadays, wait back in the 80's!!!!! Just start & drive!

My father taught me to change my oil early he does his at 1K on his Mustang cobra and 2k on a Honda Accord! I think thats a little premature so i do 2500 or so
That's nothing more than a waste of money. Unless you're running the Baja 2,000 There hould be no reason for a filter change, LET ALONE changing the oil LoL! Come on! Even the WORSE caster based oils can make it 2,000 miles under mediocer driving conditions without completely destroying an engine...

I noticed this 3K number started to popping up as the fast oil change busineess developed.
That's what has always been recommended for caster based oils so far as I know. They break down faster than synthetics. Allthough you're so right in that you'll never see an oil change place change their sticker from 3,000 miles to 5,000 miles. That would cut their profits instantly by a third!

Wrong dude. The oil drains to the oil pan when you turn the engine off. It does not stay in the oil passages throughout the engine, even with anti-drainback valves in some oil filters. So, it is certainly a nice thing for your engine if you would allow oil to make it through the oil passages before putting a load on the engine. Does it hurt it much if you didn't? Not much, but a little bit over a long time becomes a lot.

There is absolutely no myth about letting the engine warm up, especially when it is really cold outside.
