Question Questions about Repairing Power Steering Leaks

I was hoping some of you could help me repair the leaks on my gf's 93 SC400. Any info is appreciated.

-First off, I remember hearing about an o-ring that goes between the high pressure hose and the pump. Does anyone have a part # and price for this part?

-Which is the pulley/tenioner to move to release the tension on the accessory drive belt?

-What is the opinion on Autozone replacement power steering pumps? I have the reseal kit, but figure I'd save some time and just replace the whole pump so I can take my baby sis to ChuckECheese.

-Are there any things in particulare I should look out for?

Thanks in advance

How much is the rebuild pump from Autozone?

If you're good with tools, looking at a minimum of 4 hrs for the first time. I took my time taking off those hard to reach bolts. Have the front wheels on ramp, take the bottom panel off. There are two bolts that hold the pump that you can't see from the top, you can see it from the bottom only after you know where it is. Use the search in SC section for my question about power steering pump sometime back in Sept/Oct 01.

Thanks VQT,

I did read your post and it was very informative. I did see the pictures regarding the hard-to-reach bolts, so I'll be looking out for those too.

But what I really need now is the part # for the O-ring that goes between the high pressure hose and p/s pump. If I call Steve at Carson Toyota, would he be able to look it up for me?

Thanks for the help!

I assume Steve would know the # number. I didn't have to replace the O-ring at all so I don't know what you're talking about. If your P/S pump has been leaking, repalce the alternator at the same time.

Good luck

I just called Autozone and the p/s pump is $150 with a core charge of $40 or $80, which depends on which manufacturer you go with: Atsco or Cardone. Has anyone heard of either one of these?

Its lifetime warranty anyway. Get the one with $40 core charge so you can keep the original and buy a rebuild kit from Steve Ganz or any lexus parts site that sell it cheap. I paid for the kit ~$20, haven't have all the tools and place to rebuild it yet.
