Default Powersteering problem

My 91 LS on occasion will develop a heavy feeling in the steering wheel. It may last for just 10 or 15 seconds, or it may sometimes last for 30 min. It feels like the power steering is not functioning when it does this, but then it goes back to totally effortless steering. This only happens maybe once every couple of weeks. Has anyone had this happen before. Powersteering pump is full, no leaks.

Thanks for any suggestions

Might be air in the system. Maybe have the fluid replaced and purge the system of any air. Check
www.intellexual.net/ for the procedure. It's for the sc400, but it should be the same for the ls400

Check the rack assembly for leaks. I had to replace mine.

take a turkey baster or syphon the fluid out and mix it in with atf fluid... then turn the wheel all the way to ensure the fluid is mixed... i've been doin this for 30k and and I got 180k on my 91 LS and still have original OEM PS and rack and pinion
