My wife's 2000 RX 300 was purchased from the local Lexus dealer about a year ago. The car has 40,000 miles on it and the original delivery date is Oct. 1999. The Certified Lexus Warranty book states that at 48 months the coolant and the brake fluid are to be replaced. Are these just recommendations or are they ABSOLUTES that have to be performed to keep the warranty in effect? For the past year I've taken the car into the dealer for the oil/filter change every 4 months, just like the book says. [ $ 55.00 ] I would like to perform the maint. myself and use Mobil 1 like I do in my ' 01 Silverado truck. When I went to the dealer and spoke with the service manager to tell him of my intentions he said to keep the receipts for the oil/filter with the service booklet. I also think that the " honeymoon " between he and I is OVER! I think he's still disappointed about the brake-pad deal. A few months ago the service advisor informed me that all the brake pads were down to 25%-30% and the cost would be $450.00 for replacement. I purchased a premium set of brake pads for $ 58.00 and did the job myself in about 2 hours. So much for the $25.00 oil change and the $ 30.00 car wash!

BOWTIE 3,
They are "absolutes" in the sense that if something with the cooling or brake system goes wrong, the dealer has an " excuse " not to honor the warrantee. How much longer is your warrantee? Do you have the extended one?
Like you service advisor stated, keep the receipts for any service done or materials bought for service if you DIY in the service book. This way, you can "prove" to the dealer that said service was done.
Regards

The service manager at Lexus dealership is absolutely right to tell you to keep the receipt when you DIY your oil change. The problem with sluge engine on the ES and RX was due to the lack of maintenace/ oil change. He just told you that if you DIY and the problem still occur, then he can back you up by show them the receipt of the purchase of the oil filter. Nothing personal on his part and he just want to help you,but you may took it in another way.
