Question Different types of Repair Manuals?

I have been looking for a repair manual set for my 93 SC400 and have noticed at least 3 different kinds.

One set consists of 2 THICK books Vol 1 & 2 (a 3rd electrical volume is also available) and claims to be over 2500 pages. Selling on ebay for $165

Another set seems much thinner - and sells for less ($100 range) .... # of pages?

And finally I emailed Steve at Carson Toyota and he says a new manual is $122 and Volume 1 & 2 consists of just ONE book - and electrical is separate.

I am confused - How many versions of the OEM repair manuals exist?

Steve,

I hope I am not bugging you to death about this, but I am confused. I have always read that the manuals are 3 volumes. Are you saying that this manual includes everything (and there is no volume 2)? Or are you saying that Volume 1 is $122.00 and Volume 2 is an additional $122.00? And then electrical (volume 3) would be an additional $27.00?

Sorry Mike I'm told it's Vol I and II together, then electrical is separate

Anyone know the differences? I looked closely and the covers even appear to be different on the thick vs thin. Could be lighting, but they appear different...

I think I may have just figured this out; I've been thinking about this too. My theory is that the thick manuals are the ones that the certified Lexus techs use, basically the pro version. The thin version are the ones that you can just buy from the dealer, these are the consumer edtitions of the repair manuals. That's my theory. It seems to make sense, the pro version is thicker because it's more in depth and the thin one just outlines the basics.

Maybe it is the angle and lighting of the pictures, but they look different to me.

I'll take your word that they're the same though.

They are the same manual on the link you provided. It is two volume set 1 and 2 and the electrical manual is separate. If Steve Ganz sell a set for $122 get it, also get the electrical manual.
