I have had really good luck with Houston Auto Radio.
They have fixed 20 or so for me with no problems. The prices are usually in the 120-200 range. The only problem is the guy that answers the phone is not really professional.( a turn off at first) Here is their number

good luck

Same boat.
My changer is skipping like crazy too. It started skipping only now and then. Now it constantly skips. I bought a cd lense cleaner that I will try tonight. I'm hoping it does the trick. I'll let you know. I'm getting the Eibachs and Tokicos installed today and I'm sure they are not going to help the skip. Any info on sources would help me too.

I guess the dilemna we are faced with is that for the price of the repair $200, are there aftermarket alternatives out there that would be better(at least newer)? I really don't want to take apart the audio wiring or anything like that, but are there straight plug-in (or easy adaptors) aftermarket changers that are of comparable quality at the same price point?

First, their are no adaptors to make any cd changer work besides the one that comes with it. Believe me I searched for 2 months.
Now with that idea out of the way the only options are
1. Ebay
2. Someone on here selling one
3. Or a dealer and the cheapest I found for a refurbished one is Lindsay Lexus in Alexandria Va. for about 350.00.
Good luck, I know it sucks I had to wait a month before I got one. Just my 2

no adaptor for oem cd changer?
Scola,
thanx for the note. Since you have already looked into it, I trust you checked out companies lie PIE for their adaptor applications? I really hate to have to rewire from the oem radio and also pay an exorbitant amount of $$ for a refurbished unit that probably will not perform as good as an aftermarket one at a comparable price.

james,
actually the dealer said it would probably be around $240, and that was without knowing waht was wrong with it. Man at that point, a Best Buy cd changer and installation is starting to look good!
I'll keep searching...

Sucks
Yeah I agree $240 minimum to fix a cd changer that isn't that good in the first place sucks. It is a very slow changer. It sure would be nice if we could find an adaptor. I can't remember the place but I talked to one co. that said they may have one out in a few months. Too long to wait though. I'll do some searching too.

The major company that makes adaptors is called Blitzsafe and they have a website. They make adaptors for virtually every car but Lexus. I called them and hounded them as well as other ClubLexus members and the best answer we could get was maybe in six months. You may want to call again though.

well here's an idea... toyota, lexus same company essentially. I'm goin to get one of those adapters and try it out. my friends and i always have stereo parts around so i'll let you guys know. but i have to wait for the part to come in. will let you know asap. shouldn't be that big of a problem i hope. If this solution works i will finally be able to kill off my stock cd-player.

Back from the grave... with vengeance
So, I just came across this thread (bad cd changer), and read all the posts.
Interesting stuff here, I checked the blitzsafe website, and found adaptors for lexus to jvc/panasonic/kenwood cd changer conversions.
Only problem is, they list it as compatible with 1998-2003 Lexus (mine is a '95).
Will this work for 95 lexuses(?) as well, or were there major changes through 95-98
EDIT: forgot to post the link haha

if you guys did a search, this has been discussed already. you can use an es300 6 disc changer that has better antiskipping abilities (a plus for those with stiffer suspension)
