i live in central jersey! man...where was this post when i needed it. I did my tune-up on the SC in march and I paid $1k.

1k for a tune up thats sounds awfully high what did that include?

I got it done at the east brunswick gulf here in jersey. I didn't know any specific lexus repair places, and i didn't want to go to the dealership -- cost reasons of course. I can't remember all the stuff they did. They did spark plugs, distributor wires, valve stems (camshaft i think), some gasket work (i think it was for the oil-leak problem i had), air filter, and a few more things. I gotta take a look at the receipt today. Timing belt wasn't changed b/c the previous owner had changed it at 33k miles (not sure why), and they determined it was fine. I can't remember if the alternator was changed then or after the tune-up.

Yeah. i don't know how many diff. mechanics I've gone through in the past few years. These guys were at least trustworthy, but I can't say the same about some of the places before that.
