I'm thinking about slapping one of these portable GPS units in my Rav4. Does the Garmin or Magellan give you turn by turn directions via voice? Are the maps of NYC up to date? Feedback appreciated

My Garmin i5 does. I love it. It worked great when I was in NYC, and you can plug it into your computer and update it.

I had a Garmin C330 and tried to use it near times square, the thing can't get a signal for it's life, even with the extended antenna. Good elsewhere though, I appreciate my in car nav much more now cuz it works in conjunction with the speed sensor.

sell the X3 and Rav4 and buy a RX350 and get it with nav! Problem solved. Oh and buy a GTO while your at it

i have the garmin C330. it works GREAT...outside of Manhattan. the voice dictates turn by turn directions up to .9 miles before the turn and then once again +/- 300 ft. before the turn. it comes sturdy mount for the windshield, and the bezel surrounding the screen can be changed out to match your interior.

and is a beacon to any worthless low life to bash your window and steal it off your windshield. My friend just got his tom tom stolen out of his durango. Some people man, they cant respect people who work for what they have.

it is quite a target for thieves. the unit itself though undocks off the suction cup windshield mount for out of sight storage.

The Garmin i5 gets my recommendation, it is awesome small thing that hides away easily.
