Hey guys, just wondering if anyone had gotten their windows tinted on their IS in the NYC area and whether you could recommend a shop in the area. I'm putting this in the IS forum b/c I want to know prices paid for tinting on the IS specifically. Mods can move this if they think it's appropriate. Thanks for any input!

PS If you've got pics of 30% tints (NY state legal limit) or tints on tungsten pearl, that would be good to see. Thank you.

Darkness of tint is measured by Visible Light Transmission percentage (VLT%). In New York, this percentage refers to percentage of visible light allowed in through the combination of film and the window.
Windshield Non-reflective tint is allowed on the top 6 inches of the windshield.
Front Side Windows Must allow more than 70% of light in.
Back Side Windows Must allow more than 70% of light in.
Rear Window Any darkness can be used.

yeah legal limit in NYS is 70% man, not 30% you have it backwards basically, 30% light can be restricted, 70% must pass through. Generally when tint is referred to as a percentage, they mean the percentage that passes through. so a 20% tint means that only 20% light goes through. A factory tint is usually 30%, barely tinted at all basically.

Unless something has changed recently, the back side windows are under the same guidelines as the rear window and can be tinted to whatever shade you chose. Only the front windshield (six inches) and the front passenger windows fall under the 70% pass through restriction.

He is in the bronx. I had my LX and LS done there. Along with about 5 of my friends cars done there. Ive seen several Lexi in there, including meeting SGT there many moons ago. Saw this IS there a few weeks ago.

they did my windows 20% all around
i think its 20 dollers a window or sumthing and they are very good they can have it done under an hour.

Whatever the law i was just passing sum useful information on tints
because i get pulled over once a month for my tints.
But the shop gives me bogus paperwork saying that my tints were taken off.
But now i have a pba card

Total combined limit is 35% (aftermarket tint & factory tinted glass combined) I have seen cars get tickets because they went out and got 35% tint and that added to the additional tint if the autoglass put them under the 35% limit.

Great place in Staten Island called Wheel Concepts, there tinter is great but these new IS's are a ***** to tint !!!

bill....he has a green tinted 35% llumar and a reeeeaaaallly green 50 percent madico. lol if u want it....he's got it, lol.

below is the 35% llumar that he has. I really like it to be honest. The other 50% he has is more like the green you were refering to, but it doesnt look as classy. This llumar looks sick to be honest...i wish i had a car i needed to tint.

ok so this picture doesnt do the tint justice, but i dont have a sick camera like Kilo or Sleeper...i bought a tv instead of buying a nikon d80.
