Default September 12th Mid-Atlantic Wrench Meet and BBQ

Hey all, there is a new place that opened up here in Sterling, Virginia called Do-It-Yourself Mechanics where they have a shop with a bunch of lifts and tools you can rent out for really cheap and do all the work you want on your car. I went by and talked to the owner when I got some tires dismounted, and he was a really cool dude. He offered to let us host a wrench meet / BBQ there if we wanted, and they have a nice grill and meeting room space for people to relax.

I know Mark has hosted several successful wrench meets in the past, and I figured why not move the wrenching to an actual shop with air tools and lifts.

Here is the website for the DIY Garage: http://ditymechanics.com/

Who would be down for a BBQ and wrench meet sometime in September?

The meet will be on Sunday, September 12th at 11am.

I'm down. I'd like to have a lift to do some coilover adjustment.

Wow....that's a great concept. I wonder how they handle liability insurance.

you have to fill out a couple things before you start working, but the owner said he found a company that was familiar with this sort of business model and got him set up with all the right policies..

I added a low rise lift over the winter so I won't have any changes but I'd be glad to showup for morale support. We can drop back to my place for the bbq afterwards or transport some grills there. I'm only 3miles from the shop for tool runs if people need anything special and dont want to rent it there.

They also have people there to help and watch to make sure you dont get into too much trouble I hear but one thing I wondered do they limit the type of work you can do. For instance, if you want to do a full engine swap will they let you just just rent out the bay for flat fee or is it only work you can get done in a day.

i went by and talked to the owner today, and he has a big grill we can use there as long as we bring the food. they do have a mechanic that you can have do your work for a fee, and they also do deals on long-term lift rentals for bigger projects. im pretty sure they'll let you do anything short of lighting stuff on fire there...

Well except for the grill. You can do that for us Greg if that'll ensure you come

NOTE: If anyone has need for special tools and don't want to rent at the shop let me know I'd be happy to provide if I have it.
