I just hate to trust sleezy NY used car dealers. Always something up their sleeves. Perhaps you can get the dealership to bring it to a local Lexus dealer for diagnostic. It'll cost you $100 or so.
They check out the car completely (check for accidents, etc.) and test drive it as well.

cadd is completely right...however coming from a guy on the completely opposite coast, he would have no clue where elmhurst is just like I have no idea where LA is (besides that it's in cali )
I wouldn't trust any NY used car places in Queens, Brooklyn or Bronx....too many bad experiences....it seems only Long Island used car dealers are at best 25% shady
If you want it that bad, I'll go look no problem but no guarantees it's gonna be in any condition better than "driveable"

Pole Position
Guys, car salesmen made the top of the list for the least trusted people in a survey, but I'd have to say there are a lot of people out there that are no better than the dealers. Price? Yes the dealers try to take advantage of you. Especially when they give you a different deal based on your credit score. When it comes to the condition of a car, both sales people and individual owners aren't always honest.

Hi Lexism,
bad news for you, i stopped by the dealership this afternoon while on the way home.
the car you wanted was already sold.
and contrary to what other people say, i had a pretty good experience with the salesman i talked with at this particular dealership. (maybe because i spoke chinese to the guy).
he had a black on black 01 GS 300, which I took for a test drive, and it was in perfect condition.
most of the cars there are so 'fresh' that they still have the stickers stating which banks or financial institutions that used to lease them. and the cars do move quite quickly ...
good luck finding another one.
