When your registration expires, you will have to get the new plates. Everyone's registration expires within the next two years. It makes it easier for the state to see who is uninsured or unregistered as those will be the only people with the current plates after April 2012.

r u sure bro cause dmv is telling skip the trip companies to use the rest of the old plates till they run out. and i believe as of now you can transfer and renew the old plates. i dont think they have made that decision yet.

Seems like you already have the new plates. Which would mean you're probably stuck. The offices are only using plates they already have in stock so you probably registered at an office that had already run out.
So you'd have to find an office that still has the old plates in stock and then see what (if) you'd have to do in order to cancel your current plates, re-register the car and receive one of the blue/whites.
I'm sure that won't be easy or cheap.
