Suggestions for reasonable oil changes in Northern Virginia please? Preferably where they are willing to work with your synthetic oil and filter? TIA.

What kind of special oil and filter are you using? There are not many filter choices and there are really no bad 0w20 synthetic oils. I have been using Toyota oil and recently Pennzoil which appeared to make the engine quieter.

It appears the shops I recommended were too far away or not cooperative. You can try the Car Talk (the radio show brothers) site which has a huge database of reader recommended mechanics. http://www.cartalk.com/mechanics-files

Also, I would just ask around at local gas stations as they would be more receptive to do this than most other repair facilities. On Craigslist, there are some independent mechanics who travel around and would do this for you.

Finally, look at Washington Consumer Checkbook (owned by Consumer Reports) which has a yearly rating of local car mechanics from readers. All Fairfax County library branches have it in the reference section. They publish quarterly issues. Or you can join for online access.
