Default Road Trip North

Planning to Hearst Castle this weekend. Coming from SoCal. Any suggestions/tips on things to do (day & night), places to see, eat, & sleep? Kinda spur of the moment thing. Anything is greatly appreciated.

Thanks in advance everyone.

Did you make reservations for the tours??

If that's what you intended, then it should be done in advance. I have seen times where you won't be able to take a tour if you just drop in without reservations.

I did that a few years ago and we got lucky and waited 3 hours for the next available tour.

Maybe things have changed, but maybe not. Should be able to book on the web or by phone.

Just don't want you to get dissappointed.

I don't know of anything else significant in the Hearst area. There's basically nothing else out there, unless you drive north a couple hours towards Monterey.

Some people like to stay in beach motels and enjoy the quiet ocean front. Again, I have no idea if reservations are required for motels.

If you don't take a tour, then I don't think you will be able to see the castle at all.

Good Luck

I'd call it Central Cal myself. Main reason why we don't know it that well either.

This is peak period of the summer, so I wouldn't take the chance to go without reservations.

Thanks. I thought it was a walk-up/walk-in. You saved me a possible wait. Hopefully it won't take too long to find a place to stay.
