I second Osha, good stuff. But don't park your Lex there, park up the hill. Area is a lil ghetto. Good for groups too.

The House in North Beach, is awesome, Asian Fusion, small but good ambiance. Perfect for small groups or first dates. It is in a small alley across The Stinking Rose on Broadway.

Manila Star in a strip mall in SSF off of Gellert near Westborough. Awesome Filipino food. Good portions, nice people.

So Jon, Darius and meanboy: what dishes/entrees do you guys recommend. And I'm from South City and have never been to Manila Star.

Ray, for a good French restaurant that won't break the bank I'd recommend Clementine. It's on Clement St btw 2nd & 3rd Ave in the Richmond District. If my memory is correct, they have a prix fixe dinner on Mon-Thurs at a very reasonable price, I don't recall the exact price.

For Italian, I like to go to Cafe Sport in North Beach SF(Green and Columbus). Awesome food and you may see some famous people there. Last time I saw Rob Schneider from SNL walk in. A little pricey but atmosphere is casual. After dinner go walk around and have some coffee/dessert at one of the many cafes.

Default L&L Hawaiian BBQ

For da bestest plate lunches, (and if you're from Hawaii like me, you know what I mean), da only place fo grindz is L&L Hawaiian BBQ. http://www.hawaiianbbq.com/ Many Bay Area locations: Hayward, Daly City, Union City, etc.

Since I live in San Ramon I go to Kilohana, which is very good as well. But I work in Fremont and L&L is opening up a new location there off Mowry. I'm so there when it opens. Thanks for the heads up firestorm!

For steak and ribs I like Texas Roadhouse in Union City. Fudruckers in Union City has great 2lb. burgers. The cheesecake factory has great deserts. Joes Crab Shack in SF has great BBQ crab. Elephant Bar has some great dishes to choose from. But my most favorite place to go for great food is Sonoma Chicken Coop in downtown San jose.

the son of Sonoma Chicken Coop gives me free gift certificates every once in a while . very nice people. i love their fried calamary, very similar to cheesecake factory's fried calamary.
