Newcomer in 2004 SC300 takes Trophy
Posted this in the SC forums and got no love whatsoever, so I thought I'd repost where people might be familiar with Sear's Point.
Last Sunday was my 3rd time out to a drag strip.
The first 2 times, I came by myself and ran *****-out as fast as I could.
Both times I was knocked out in the 3rd race, once by a hatchback running mid-15s.
Sunday was interesting because I really came to watch a friend of mine run his car, and he said: "Since you're already here, why don't you just pay $20 and race?" So I said what-the-heck and payed $20 for a Trophy Class entry. I was up against about 50 cars.
Since the track was wet and had to be dried, the races started late, and Trophy class was only allowed 1 practice run. This being my first time out to this particular track and Trophy having to go first, I knew the first run would suck, and indeed it did. I ran a 14.2 (previous personal best is a 13.6)
Knowing nothing about the track and little about bracket drag-racing, I asked my friend: "What do I dial?" Took him all of 3 minutes to explain to me why I should dial 13.9 and what to do once the staging lights went on.
The result? Read for yourself:

*The tech card didn’t have a spot for model year, so they guessed the year - they were only slightly off *
On one of the runs my opponent fouled off the line (I guess she was too eager to take me out) and I didn’t let out the whole way down…got my 13.6 for the day.
In the end: I had a big grin on my face for a few days. Wasn’t nearly that excited about my 13.6 run that got owned my a Civic.
Happy racing yall!

EDIT: The next event in the series is on Monday, FEB 20th (President's Day) so if anyone is off from work and wants to come out and either race or watch, you're more than welcome to.

Thanks guys!
They totally took a guess on the year. It's funny because if you give them any classic, they'll have it down to the build month, but they could barely get within a decade of mine.
I can't wait till the 20th. Any of you guys able to come out?

Great job Alan,
For being only your 3rd time out you had a great reaction time. I haven't done a 1/4 mile in ages (since the now defunct Baylands Raceway) and that was w/ my old musclecar. I would like to time the GS, not sure yet if I'll be free on the 20th.
