Welcome to Norcal. I too work at Nummi as a Sr. Group Leader. Which department will you work in? If you're going to share a place with 4-5 other people, I think it's best to stay in Fremont, close to work. Gaurantee that you will be putting in long hours. All the other people that I work with from other plant usually do longs hours. Hope to see you around...PM me when you get to Nummi so that I know that there are 2 CL members here.

Let me give you my thoughts on this......Fremont is a great place to live....you have everything you need but like most people say, it's not the most exciting city. However, all the cities in the Bay Area are close by (in distance) and has things for everyone to do. I lived in Milpitas (adjacent city to Fremont) and in Fremont right now. Both are great cities to live in and are cheaper than some other places in the Bay Area minus a few exceptions such as living in Fremont Mission Hills and such.
The cities themselves are generally much safer than areas such as Hayward, Union City, and Newark. If you're on a budget but want a safe place to live, you'll probably need to rent out a room at someone's place if you're looking for that kind of budget. If you don't really care about the neighborhood or your car, then you can probably find it in a lesser safe neighborhood.
As for car meets, you can check out Milpitas Square during the week.....I believe there's always a big gathering during the summer months for car enthusiasts. If you're not from here, you'll probably have a great time meeting a lot of people who have similar interests like you and they can give you more info.

I am glad that this post has got so many replies... a lot nice people here... I live in Fremont too
Not sure what else to add but here is my share, for you and many other CL members. Fremont and many other Bay Area cities use photo enforcement red light running cameras, be aware and cautious while driving!
In the next month I am installing five more cameras in three Fremont intersections (I am a City of Fremont employee, traffic engineer) for PD, they are:
- Mission & Warm Springs: north bound through and left, east bound through and left
- Mission & Mohave: west bound through and right (right turn on red)
- Thronton & Blacow: east bound through and right (right turn on red) and north bound through/left/right (to I-880 on ramp)
Anyone who is interested in the active red light camera location, please send me a private message. Good luck in Fremont and drive safely.

Anyways, even up here in Contra Costa the rent is still insane, Pinole and Richmond go for $1000, while places in Walnut Creek and Concord can hit $1400...

Can't comment our City cops. However, many friends of mine said Fremont Police is one of the Bay Area worst in their experience...

Just don't do crazy stuff and Fremont cops won't bug you. Not sure where all this "they are the worst" comes from. They are bad when it comes to solving crimes and answering alarms, but they don't go around pulling everyone over for no front plates. I would recommend staying away from Irvington/Thorton/police station areas as that is where most of the traffic enforcement cops roam. Mission might get one cop a week but he is just out to get speeders on Mission or Paseo Padre, usually always has someone pulled over whenever I pass him.

In Fremont, Redflex needs to get permits from me (city) like in any other city/county/state... It just happens that I am in charge in Fremont overseeing the construction.

Don't take it lying down. You do NOT have to identify anyone unless you are testifying in court.

I live in Milpitas and I think it's a great small quiet town to live in. It's not very exciting but that's what I enjoy about it-- the predictability. If you want exciting, you can always go to downtown SJ or SF. It's not too far of a drive.
As for the Fremont PD, I know for a fact they were very strict about no front plates, tint, exhaust, etc. back about 6 or 7 years ago. I kept reading about this infamous motorcycle cop named Rosetti who always ticketed modified vehicles, but I didn't believe it until he gave me a fix-it ticket some odd years back. I guess things have gotten better now. Or maybe since I drive a Lexus now, I'm "profiled" differently.

Rosetti is still at large...haha everyone in Fremont knows about him...I have been harrassed about my exhaust, but mine isn't very loud...just really large tips... Milpitas cops are worst than Fremont cops from what I heard... but you never know.

And is Rosetti the motorcycle cop?
