if you were in sf, i'd tell you to go to my shop where they have a windshield guy come out and replace it right there on the spot while you watch. i had mines replaced when mines started leaking (original owner accident took such a crummy approach to fixing the car). also normally i hear that some insurance companies will replace it for you if the crack occurred on the highway.

yes, check your insurance first if they cover or not......if you have comprehansive, usually it's $100 deductible. All you have to do is send back to the dealer and have the insurance take care of the rest.....

my deductable is $500 tho. Hopefully the deductible is different when it comes to windshield replacement. Ive serached the boards and seems like going rate for a PPG replacement is around 200-300 dollars where as an OEM is upwards of 1200. I highly doubt my deductible will be 100 bucks if i want an OEM replacement. I'll give my insurance company a call tommorow morning and see what happens.

Your deductable of $500 is for collision. For glass it's a different deductable, usually $100. My windshield got cracked on the free way, it was small at first but by the time I got home it was like about 12 inches. Called insurance up said its a $100 deductable, so I brought it to the dealer and it was $1200. I paid up front first, then insurance reimbursed me all the money minus the $100.

if you are claiming through your insurance, definitely go with OEM!

so...i called my insurance company today and no mention of a $100 deductible for glass replacement. All she said was I am covered under comprehensive and im only liable for $500 which is my deductible and they cover the rest. I asked if there was such a thing as a lower debuctible when it comes to glass and she said she hasnt heard of one.

anyways..so i guess im just gonna go with an aftermarket one. any suggestions?

if you want dirt cheap, try this one

you should call her back and ask how much more you need to pay if you want to make comprehensive $100 deductible.....doesnt really make sense that you have to pay $500 for that......or maybe you should switch company!

Deductibles are chosen by the customer, not the insurance company. There is no standard priced deductible for comprehensive or collision claims. You pick the deductible amount which you first choose when you add a new car or open a new policy. It's usually $100, 250, 500, 750, 1000, 2000 depending on your insurance company. If the company only offers one amount, they are probably a small no-name insurance company. If you have a high deductible for comp or collision, it's because you are trying to save money on the rates quoted to you for one year. The lower your deductible amount, the high your premium is for the year. The higher your deductible amount or coverage, the lower your premium is. You get what you pay for.

Do not go with cheap glass. ^^^ Safelite is pretty reputable. I believe they carry PPG. If not goin with OEM then go with PPG. I had to get some cheap aftermarket glass because my car was broken into on a holiday. There are ripple all over and cracked in half after a month. But then again thats based on my experience.

My insurance carrier is AAA. Also my best friend's sis works for them and she was the one who told me about the windshield policy and said that all the glasses are $100 deductible. My deductible for collision is $500 and my premium is less than 1g a year (960) for my 06 2IS.

Safelite is real good. I believe it's OEM on most vehicles.
