In case you haven't tuned into the news, sections of 80E -> 580E and 80W -> 880S have collapsed due to the intense heat generated by a tanker fire.

Wow..
That is bad. Hey, we are in USA, and 24 hours is a lot of time. Don't foget we have Arnold as our governator.
That is in the worst traffice maze in Bay Area. I am sure the traffice will be horrible if they don't fix it by 4am tomorrow.

The was an "expert" on TV last night and he said it could take up to a year to fix this! I personally know many people who take this route regularly and needless to say it will be tough.

There are some lessons in political leadership here. Deukmeijian was Governor during the Loma Prieta earthquake and Wilson during the Northridge earthquake. Now Schwarzenegger has a chance to show that he can cut through the red tape and expedite the job of reconstruction.

With the cost of materials, round-the-clock repair efforts racking up overtime, additional transit resources, and added traffic congestion, this is going to be one hefty repair bill. I wonder how much the tanker company will have to pick up. Initial findings faulted the driver for speeding.

I haven't been able to find a definitive answer to this... If I'm coming up from 880, northbound, can I still get across the Bay Bridge? What about into Berkeley?
I assume Berkeley Southbound to the Oakland airport via 880 is out...

You won't be affected heading Northbound, only if you travel on the previously noted routes (such as heading to the Oakland airport from Berkeley via the 80W -> 880S connector).
