Do you live in SF? If you do there are some good restaurants depending on what you feel like eating and price range.

House of Prime Rib
1906 Van Ness Ave.
SF, CA
415-885-4605
(went there yesterday after a few years and it was great. $37.76 i think for a 10oz. with 2 sides and if your still hungry you can ask for a 2nd slab with small portion of sides. so about $40 a person.)

Seafood:
PPQ Dungeness Crab
2332 Celment St @ 25th Ave.
SF, CA 94121
415-386-8266
(friend owns this place)

Thanh Long Restaurant
4101 Judah St @ 46th Ave.
SF, CA 94122
415-665-1146
(friend works here)

Oyaji Sushi
3123 Clement St
SF, CA 94121
415-379-3604
(friend owns)

Italian:
Cafe Tiramisu
28 Belden
SF, CA 94104
415-421-7044
(this restaurant is in an alley with awhole bunch of other italian restaurants. reservations not needed, but i would just in case)

Vietnamese Cuisine
5830 Geary Blvd.
SF, CA 94121
415-668-8080
(not as expensive as the ones above and no reservations needed)

OR go to www.yelp.com for restaurant reviews and locations. haha maybe i should of gave you this instead of typing all the above. Just go to Browse by Category and choose a neighborhood or category from there.

Sorry if this is too much info.

Khanh's is not that nice of a setting if he's looking to take her somewhere nice and that new restaurant... haha That place (location) changes names/get bought/goes out of business almost every year. I dont know that I would recommend that place.

I would suggest Forbes Mill in Los Gatos, La Fondue in Saratoga (nice place and every girl I know who has been there loved it), The Grill on The Alley in the San Jose Fairmont, Morton's in San Jose, House of Prime Rib in S.F., Crustacean (same ownership as Thanh Long mentioned above) in S.F., Espetus (it's Brazilian and you have to love meat for this one) in S.F., Il Fornaio in San Jose, and the list goes on and on...

at Costco. It is a nice place, they have great deals on food

Wine Cellar
50 University Ave. Los Gatos, CA

is very romantic and nice.

Chez TJ on 938 Villa St., Mountain View is nice as well.

You've gotten some great recommendations for food above. Pretty much if you're in SJ you go to Santana Row, if you're in SF go to some of the places listed above.

As for where to party after you eat...here's a list of things to do in no particular order. For the Bars, just look em up on the web prior (ie. citysearch) to get a feel for them and see if they're ur thing. For the party venues, check out the promoter links to see music styles and crowds.

Theres actually a million more party links, but I'm not quite sure what you're into. They're pretty easy to find online tho with the help of google. If you just want to chill and people watch the SF bars are your best bet.

San Jose:
Best bet: http://www.santanarow.com/
Think of it as a mix of 3rd street promenade and The Grove if you're familiar with LA. High end shops, with a lot of upscale bars/lounges and restaurants. Def check it out at some time since its so close. V Bar and Blowfish Sushi are popular.

SF:
Bars:

Broadway & Columbus / (North Beach Area)

Dragon Bar
Sake Lab
Fuse
Bubble Lounge
O'Reily's Irish Pub

Marina Area
Matrix
triangle Bars

Financial District Area
Schroaders
White Elephant
Gordon Biersh (GET THE GARLIC FRIES if u go)

Mission
Majools

Market
Orbital Room

Parties this weekend:
http://www.visionshocksf.com/ - always a good crowd. my top recommendation. all asian though
http://www.donovansf.com/ - an older crowd (late 20s to mid 30s)
http://frenchylefreak.com/ - primarily dance and trance music

Good luck, you better tell us what you ended up doing and how it went

it's past your mileage, but Napa Valley is also a nice place, though dinner will run you close, if not over 100 a person. And since the weather is so crappy lately, a lot of restaurants will be available without a reservation, so you can drive around and take your chances with whatever you feel like.

In Berkeley, the premier restaurant is Chez Panisse. The chef is nationally famous. Other great restaurants with big names are Gary Danko and Michael. None of these are particularly fun, and cost a lot (some say too much), but eating out has never really been about value.

I second the recommendation for House of Prime Rib for something that's fun, good food, hip crowd, good location. And yes, get the English cut. Thinner slices, and you can always get more later, though usually the portion is enough.

Cross 980 and take the 24 over the Caldecott into Walnut Creek - there's a few good places there - I went to Maria Maria located on Lincoln and Broadway which is Santana's restaurant and it was pretty good and priced decently for the 'Creek. Caffe del Stelle is another nice place, a small Italian cafe that always has a Ferrari parked outside - it's right on North Main St.

If you end up going to forbes mill, you must make reservations. The earlier you call, the better. They get booked up pretty fast on weekends.

Teatro Zinzanni in SF. Cabaret and dinner, it's quite an experience.
