How safe is your Neighborhood?
I live in San Mateo, which is a neighboring city of Foster city, probally right on the boarderline of SM and FC. I always thought it was a safe place and no burglary would take place at least nothing like this. On my way home from the gym this afternoon i saw something that got me spooked!
I know people say get more than one wheel lock, but if someone wants ur wheels they will get it right?. I feel bad for the owner of this car. I always saw it driving around until today.
I wish I had a garage to park my car in. Any precautions I can take? any suggestions?
it was badly vandalized so it seemed when i drove by. broken windows and keyed all around. I wonder if this was done random or his car was specifically targeted?
Just curious how many other members park on the public road ? or driveway with aftermarket wheels? what have you guys done to prevent such a mishap?

WoW im speechless but i did get a little chuckle at the photo.
I think my neighborhood is nice since everyone seems to look out for one another but i park inside between a SUV and a truck so i think im safe. But if a crook wants to steal something, they wont let anything stop them.

I used to park in the driveway until I heard my factory alarm go off one night. I just ran outside half asleep with a metal pipe in one hand ready to smash on people. Neighbors with modified cars also help keep an eye for you. Also my car is too low for a regular jack and sometimes even a lo pro. Having more than one wheel lock will not help. Having the right wheel lock will.

WOW! I live in San Francisco in the sunset area. I think it's pretty safe if you know the right people around the area.
If they really wanted those wheels they would do anything to get them. Even cutting into your struts/coils and take the entire rotor with the wheel.( I'm serious too)

Well, sometimes it's not your neighbors that are thieves. A lot of times, stolen vehicles will end up far from where it was stolen (usual hometown of the perpetrator). I think it's safe to say the same with car parts theft. I get paranoid parking at my gf's house in East Side San Jose. I personally know her neighbor across the street and between just the two houses, there have been over 8 acts of theft/vandalism.
I have different wheel locks for my car and hearing Jspec's statement, it makes me a bit sad. This is coming from a tire/wheel expert.
Jspec: Do you have any other suggestions for safeguarding our wheels/cars? I know the garage is probably the best option but I don't have the choice right now.

Not suprising at all to me.. I've worked in SM for years. The norfolk side is not that good an area of town and has the cheapest homes in the city... It's also where a lot of the illegals hang out. Gang fights break out all the time over on the east side near closer to the downtown area by the freeway. The west side of san mateo is the good part of town as soon as you get past the railroad tracks heheh
