my vta was on the fmic hard pipe in the bumper. thankfully nobody saw it-

they dont run your car when inspecting - its just parked.

basicaly:

-show up dressed white colar
-be polite and have all your papers in line
- get there early when nobody is rioting, make sure the man isnt in the DMV parking lot (in case he gets interested when your hood gets popped.

best of luck.

haha, thanks for the advice. I'll definitely follow it. It currently has a 92-94 front bumper so hopefully that will hide the FMIC a bit. I was considering putting on my Origin front bumper, but maybe I should hold off on that until it gets registered. That bumper isn't exactly known for being incognito.

I just spoke with a good friend of mine today. He has an MK3 he's had for about 5 or 6 years. He had it imported to the states from Japan. He was talking to me about how he legitimately registered his car. Now this was news to me because I hear stories about how people attempt and fail. He basically told me you just have to have all your gray market papers, money, and patience. The total registration process took about 6 months. He paid about $1500 in fees. The car did have to be smogged and it had to be inspected by the CHP. But the only reason he went through that was because it was a vehicle from outside the US. So if you are only trying to register your SC with a GTE then all you would have to worry about is passing smog unless you were in an accident and are getting a title change.
