Default Painting wheels..... Recommendations?

Hello all,
I'm considering getting my 3GS wheels painted a hyperblack or gunmetal type color. I was wondering if anybody here knew someone who could do it. I don't think I want the wheels powdercoated, just painted and clearcoated. Unless powdercoating is better? I know Wheel Techniques can paint my wheels for me but looking around for other shops or maybe a referred, talented individual who can do it in their garage.

Thanks,
Theo

I'd recommend getting them powdercoated since its more durable. Wheel Techniques is probably the best place to get it done at.

I am always confused by what powder coating actually is? Does it always come out with a rough finish... you know kinda like orange peel but worse? If that's the case, it's really a turn off.

I'd make these guys my last option. I just hate how they contaminate the clear coat.

No they are not. They are Lexus OEM 18" wheels, so just 1 piece cast aluminum alloy. Do you have someone you can refer me to.

I've gone to Wheel Techniques once and wasn't the happiest with their customer service and end results. They fixed my bend nicely but the re-chrome was so-so. Plus they require too much "grease" money to speed things along. I don't like that.

I send you pm regarding the place.
I'm not sure if they can do powder coating for one piece wheels.
Anyways they did powder coat Iforged center piece for friends car before.
Of course I dismount the center piece by myself.
Call them First, I Hope it helps.

Hi JT,

I think theo wants his OEM 3GS 18x8 Alloy wheels to be refinished. I'm lookin to get my wheels done too.. even in similar hyperblack or gunmetal type color. No worries Theo.. it is not my 3GS wheels. Some other OE wheel.

I kinda need a place too.

x2 on wheel techniques.. the grease monkey scratched the rim they fixed when remounting the tire.

Thanks for all the help guys.

Can anyone give me the gist of powdercoating vs. painting/clearcoating? Advantages and disadvantages? One thing I've heard but am not sure of.... is that powdercoating a one piece will weaken the wheel? Hence, most people with multi-piece wheels only powdercoat their centers? I guess this belief I have is from a picture I've seen of a stock 350Z wheel that was powdercoated and then the wheel broke. I tried to search but a lot of the threads are "Should I get my wheels powdercoated this color? etc."

I have a friend that paints wheels, He has a autobody / paint shop located in Oakdale Ca. He says that powder coating the wheels can mess with the metal, changes the structure and can weaken it like with chroming wheels. He actually recommends painting/clear coating the wheels.

There is all the info you need if you want to get in touch with them. (Master's Autobody)

Caoboy: Thanks for the lead.... man I wish he wasn't so far inland. I don't know if I can make it all the way there on my 20's without bending them. I will give him a call. What's your friend's name? What was your name so I can tell him you referred me?
