Default Coming to SF, Need good Filipino Restuarants

Okay so I work for Kaiser in the Mid-Atlantic region (DC, MD, VA) and I have to come out to Oakland for some meetings. My wife is coming with me and wanted to go to some good Filipino restaurants as she heard there are supposed to be a lot of good ones. We will be staying in Union Square. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated! As my wife is 7mo pregnant she has been craving the food she grew up on back in the Philippines, so I need help to curb these preggo cravings please!

Thanks!!!!!

Welcome Pare !

So you said Union Square as in San Francisco?

Filipino Town is Union City and there is Jerry's Grill and then fast Food like Toppings, but UC is an hour away from SF and about 30 min from Oakland.

Something closer to SF would be:

www.bistroluneta.com
615 E. Third Avenue, San Mateo - (650) 344-0041

Toppings
2215 Gellert Blvd
South San Francisco, CA 94080

(650) 754-1058

There's always Jollibee 200 4th St, San Francisco, but that's only Chicken and not really real Filipino.

Let us know what area or how far you are willing to drive as there are lots of choices depending on the area.

Hey thanks for the suggestions. Only issue is that I probably won't have a car on this trip...just cabs and the BART. Someone at my office told me to possibly check out tselog and Max's....any experience with them? We are always happy to go to small holes in the wall if the food is good because usually they are!

Salamat Po!!!!!!!

here's their yelp reviews:
http://www.yelp.com/biz/gerrys-grill-daly-city

they've been open only a few months so they're still working on their dishes being just right

there's also a chinese restaurant that serves topsilog, longsilog, etc called ling nam
i think it's somewhere in

they don't get very high ratings but i think their food is pretty good...

Well I'm finally down here and just bummin around today while waiting for my hotel room to be done. Kinda tough with a 7.5mo pregnant wife though LOL.

So looks like I will be heading to So. SF if I want to get some good Filipino food from what I hear/see. Ever been to Ong Pin? A co-worker of mine said it was good as well as Max's. She is pinay but living in DC so who knows....but she is a little bachoy so might mean the food is good cuz you never doubt someone who has some meat on their bones when they say food is good

I know this may be random but any good vegetarian restaurants too, I usually don't eat a lot of meat (for health reasons) and enjoy good vegetarian food. I see a lot of random places and some claiming to be "the best" but those usually aren't.

Thanks for all the help guys! Nice to be on the Left coast for a few days, too bad its not summer and I don't have my SC with me, even though it would rip the exhaust off and probably get stuck going over a hill from being so low :-)

I also recommend Ihaw Ihaw in San Bruno and Kalesa in Milpitas.

HAHA yea,
a "few" members have tried my wife's cooking.

That's why I'm gaining weight.

Haha! My girlfriend says it's a source of pride for Filipina women when their significant others have big stomachs. Sucks for us, but the food is sooooo good!

Max's is good.

My friends and I usually end up at Ling Nam after a night out in San Francisco.

Don't know if you're still here in SF (just noticed the thread), but like the previous post mentioned both Max's and Ling Nam I agree they are good standbys. Since someone else mentioned Ihaw Ihaw in San Bruno, that reminds me of Tribu also in San Bruno whiich is good but a little pricey. As for Ongpin, been there a few times in the past and its fine. I believe either Ongpin or someone from Ongpin opened up Karilagan nearby (down the street from Max's). Been to Karilagan a few times and it is good, I like their sigsig and kare-kare. Couple of other good places are Toppings on Gellert (good value too) and Boracay on El Camino. These last few places are all in SSF.
