Comprehensive claim question

A piece of large plastic on the freeway hit the car and left a scratch on the roof and windshield, pretty sure damage can be over $750
if I file a claim with the insurance company, do we have to report the "accident" to DMV because it is over $750?
If DMV reporting is needed, would it show up on carfax later when I sell the car?
Would my rates go up from a comprehensive claim or should I pay for the bodyshop on my own? (deductable $500)
Thanks

I've been going to 19th A/B for many years and they've been very good to me. Jay (excellent guy) is the owner but if you ask for him, he's probably not there since he doesn't come in too often. You'll probably deal w/ Cliff or Jihon.
Normally you're supposed to report an accident if the damage is over $750, but I don't believe this would qualify since there was no other party involved and no other property damage, just your own car.
The other concern is when filing a claim you shouldn't say you ran into something sitting on the road because the insurance might say it's a collision loss not a comprehensive loss. It's better if something fell onto your car then it would be comprehensive.
Also your rates do not go up on a comprehensive claim, but on a collision claim if you are listed at 50% or more at fault then your rates may go up.

Thanks for the tips on the collision vs compresensive,
There was a truck kicked up a piece of plexiglass or something and landed on the windshield then the roof.
I have a better look at the roof after work
Looks like clear coat scratched in couple spots and a scruff, some are deep. But definitely need more than scratchX.
Windshield mark buffed off so it's ok.
This is my other car not a Lexus by the way, just white non-metalic.
I am interested in touchup repair professionally if it is possible, does anyone know how that works?
I am definitely not going to claim, because if it's too much over my deductable I am not going to fix it at all.
Thanks
