I saw the fire while driving home from South SF. Didn't think it would still be going on. Hope everyone is okay and keep hope if they lost their house.

I was driving home when it happened. Thought it sounded like an airplane flying low so I opened the window to see what it was.. then I saw a huge wall of fire and I thought dayumn the plane musta crashed! Man lots of folks must be dead up there. I could feel the heat from my open car window a few miles away down on 280.

They have now confirmed 53 homes have been completely destroyed, and well over 100 more damaged.

PG&E has confirmed it was their gas line... and the explosion also compromised the water main for that neighborhood.

My question is why does PG&E have a super high pressure gas main/line (Which is over 10 inches in diameter) going straight through a dense residential area ...

Yeah I'm hearing only 1 confirmed dead so far which is surprising to me. From where I was on the freeway the whole hill was a big wall of flames.. I saw some houses where the flames were and thought way more people would have died... but thank goodness now that it's settling down it seems like most people got out okay.

People have been complaining about smelling gas odors for weeks leading up to this. PG&E can replaces houses and other materialistic things, but people's lives have been scarred and sentimental belongs are lost forever.
