Slight ticking noise before engine is warmed up
I have a 2018 NX300 and there is a slight ticking noise when I accelerate if the engine is not warm up. Just wondering if this is normal, I know about the metal expansion and all that, so is that what the noise is, engine parts need to expand to fit perfectly? Like a piston slap? Dont think its noisy lifters since the ticking goes away after the engine is warm.

The NX engine does not have traditional valve lifters. Instead, they use a spring-loaded plunger to eliminate any play ("lash") in the valve actuation mechanism (refer to attached drawing).
I was thinking the sound you hear might be pre-ignition ("pinging") resulting from a richer fuel-air mixture at cold engine temperature. Does it diminish if you accelerate more gently?
