That actually brings up an interesting theoretical point since that Macan won't get to the US. Based on US prices, the Macan S starts at $50k, and the AWD RX at $41k. Knock a few thousand off the Macan for the much smaller engine, and suddenly the cars are only 4-5k apart.
Porsche gives you a million a la carte options to run the tab way up, whereas you can select from all of 2 packages on your RX.

Navigation System Package
Rear Seat Entertainment and Navigation Package
Premium Package
Comfort Package
Luxury Package with Blind Spot Monitor
Sport Appearance Package
You could also consider the F Sport a package.
On top of that, there are 11 stand alone options.

Porsche does indeed offer a lot of packages and options, but let's not be overly dramatic on the RX. Available packages on the RX:
Navigation System Package
Rear Seat Entertainment and Navigation Package
Premium Package
Comfort Package
Luxury Package with Blind Spot Monitor
Sport Appearance Package
You could also consider the F Sport a package.
On top of that, there are 11 stand alone options.

And here I thought that Lexus was first with full LED headlights :-)
SUVs cost more than sedans... So just like X3 is more expensive than 3 series, so would NX be more expensive than ES.
Not to mention that ES does not have the same equipment and features and certainly interior looks like two steps below NX.
So this is why they artificially limit the price.

I agree. When we bought our RX, the lack of a panoramic roof was a real disappointment. We had rented an SRX with the roof while on vacation in Hawaii and loved it, and had a similar experience with a Grand Cherokee as a rental in San Diego.

While one might think the reason is Venza, which has a lower height, being considered a RV used in urban setting and so nobody really beat it up with stuff being loaded on the roof and do camping.
However, it doesn't necessarily imply all RV owners would use the roof rail because it has a higher clearance and height. For one, I never use the roof rail. In fact, without inserts, the roof rail are for cosmetics and it is a chore when doing a hand car wash.
In Japan, the roof rail only was standard with the sports package only prior to the Spindle Grill treatment. Currently, it is optional even with the F Sport models. For some other countries, the roof rail has never been available at all.
Now for the NX, I see Lexus has tried to differentiate the luxury and F Sport version by either having panoramic glass or roof rail. For regular model (luxury model or called Version L in some countries such as Japan), it comes with panoramic glass (could be optional, don't know yet). For F Sport, it comes with roof rail.
If panoramic glass is not made available Stateside, then the way to differentiate F Sport from regular NX models is the lack of certain basic features such as auto-sensing wiper, ventilated seats, etc. I hope it is not the case as I am sure some 2014 IS owners have complained about it.

2011 Ford Escape 2.5L Hybrid AWD
+177 hp @ 6000 RPM
+3829 lbs @ 174.7" length
+ 30/27 MPG
How much better can the NX300h do with 17 more hp? Is 32 MPG (combined) even possible in AWD?

34-36mpgs for the NXh appears very realistic (AWD on the lower end, FWD higher end)

This is some good perspective, but that was the first gen Escape Hybrid and its MPGs wasn't that great. It;s the same mileage as an RXh or Highlander hybrid which has 100+ more hp and weighs 800+ lbs more.

Seeing as how we're already averaging close to 28 mpg in our 2010 RX 450h, that wouldn't be enough of a fuel-economy improvement to tempt me to trade it in for a lower-powered, smaller, and probably less comfortable NXh -- even if we had a lot of miles on our '10 RXh, which we don't. (Bought it last Nov. with less than 15K on it.)

Now, trading 100hp? I wouldnt.
NX should be considerably lighter car, so driving experience should be quite different, even if NX is likely going to be considerably slower.

Does anyone know the type of fuel the NX turbo will take? Considering the RX takes unleaded it would make sense the turbo does too. I would think considering high fuel prices keep going up this would draw more ppl to look at the NX if it doesn't require premium fuel....especially since the Q5 n X3 requires premium.
