My memory is a little foggy but what about the 3.0 V6 "sludge" engine?
Didn't Toyota come out with a design change in a year? Toyota/Lexus blamed it on bad customer maintenance but did change the engine.

 

Long time after 1 year passed.... 3-4-5-6 probably. They never sold them for Europe (I am European), but I know of the issues with local european models and nothing is that fast... with AD diesels 2.5 full years after catastrophic oil loss was found to be happening 6 months into cars appearing on market. And that was a priority #1 for company... several different fixes were provided but were not effective. Injectors in truck diesels - KD series (LC, Hilux) - issues started happening in LC's 5-7 years after it came on the market.

ZZ issues probably 6 years later, but they were very slow to happen and didnt happen on many cars.

We can look at GR and recall happened 5-6 years after engine started selling.

Something far simpler - squealing brakes got "fixed" by dealer installing different pad at request.

It is probably opposite of every other manufacturer, but in general, waiting 6 months to buy Japanese built Lexus from "Platinum award" plants with lowest number of problems per vehicle in the world, does not make much sense. You can wait for 3 years to get rid of 1-2 squeaks, but by then car wont be as interesting.

 

Pictures aren't great because they're from my Google Glass, but I'm a bit torn. I like the horizontal bars on the regular 300h, but I don't like the way it cuts sharply in at the bottom (like the non F-sport RX). I prefer the larger grill on the F-sport, but I'm hybrid biased at the moment.

I agree. I like the horizontal bars on the 300h, but don't enjoy the protruding-nose look. However, remember there's also a "sport appearance" version on the 300h similar to the F-Sport's bumper, but question is how this bumper will be packaged and which market(s) get it.

NX is appealing but will a 6'2" saturation aquanaut be able to go in and out of this easy? Or does one have to lower the seat so that nearly sits on the ground beneath the floorboard? Spoiled with the GX ..works well for me....

Input..feedback..suggestions???? oh please oh please don't tell me to look at other brands...but if I have to....

this NX will only be use a putter around town suv....

Ive been noticing the sports appearance package on a lot of RXs lately

 

The ingress/egress of the NX will be maybe 3-4 inches lower than a GX, and guesstimating about 1 - 1.5 inches lower than an RX and RAV4. The NX is designed to be a "sports car" version of the RAV4 platform with a lower seating position and center of gravity. The closest height ingress/egress I'm guesstimating the NX to be like is like a Toyota Venza. As for headroom, we can expect similar amount across these vehicles (~39" at front). Try out the RX, RAV4, and especially the Venza to get an idea, the NX will be very close to these.

 

I like the hybrid grill.
The F-Sport grill to me is too much.I also find the F-Sport combo fog light and side light position weird.
Both may grow on me,though.

 

They haven't been too kind with giving the US any hybrid sports though.

 

Lexus Espana info about Hybrid engines:

0-62 mph
NX300h: 9.9s
GS300h : 9.2s

MPG (l/100km) combined for lowest version:
NX300h: 5.1l/100km
GS300h : 4.7l/100km

NX300h comes Q4 2014, while NX 2.0t comes in 2015.

Consumption numbers are not bad, but they are not earth shattering for EU... best in class and "as expected".

 

^^^Thanks for the find. 5.1L/100km sounds great however, I looked up the CT on the Spain site and it's at 3.6L/100km so we need to adjust these numbers since in Canada, the CT is at 4.5 L/100km. So in standardizing the NX number value to the Canadian value (then US), we get the following

4.5/3.6 x 5.1 = 6.4 L/100km Canada or ~36 mpg US

This seems very plausible for N. American figures.

 

Where did you get the NX300h 9.9s number? I'm not saying that it is false, but the 0-62 mph figure is pretty discouraging. I cannot categorize this as a spirited and youthful "new design" approach. Below 9s would have been more acceptable.

According to Motortrend, the 2014 Corolla can do 0-60 mph in 9.7s. There's really no class when even a Toyota Corolla can (literally) drag race this car.

 

Yeah, that's so much worse than I would have anticipated for acceleration. The ESh is much "faster" at 8.1 sec I believe....and that's still really slow. How can the NX be so much worse? Do weight and aerodynamics account for that much? I'll wait for the official numbers, but if that 9.9 holds true I am crossing the hybrid off my list.
