Mercedes, Audi and BMW all currently sell a diesel compact CUV with a turbocharged diesel engine. But there is a luxury automobile manufacturer lurking in the shadows, looking to disrupt the German stranglehold on small fuel-sipping luxury CUVs. That company is Lexus.

The Lexus isn't GREAT at anything, but its GOOD at everything. So it wins.
I guess a part victory?

"Jack of all trades" wins here versus "Master of some".
The IS too is in a similar winning situation over its rivals - not the fastest (3-series), not the best handling (ATS), not the most luxurious (A4), but is consistently good at everything...

Reviews/Press on the NX
In case you have not seen it, the May issue of MotorTrend magazine did a comparison test on compact 'luxury' SUV's, and based on the commentary, the NX was the runaway winner by a good margin. It was compared against the Volvo XC60, Lincoln MKC, Range Rover Evoque, BMW X3 (strangely, the Audi Q3 or Benz GLK were not part of the pack). Still - good press for the NX and reassuring to see I made a good choice. Now if only my car would get here!!!

Instead he talks as if the fresh looks and the hybrid system are the only things there are going for this car, though I fear that it does reflect how Lexus is currently being looked at by most of the average Europeans.
