What does a New Lexus Warranty Really Cover? - A Confused BMW Owner..:)
I am planning to buy my first Lexus. I am BMW person. I have been spoilt by the 4 years comprehensive BMW warranty, which covers everything including oil changes, brakes etc..
When I look at Lexus warranty it says basic warranty. So what does this really cover? Do I have to buy any additional warranty? [I know Lexus is very reliable but do I need additional coverage?].
When I log in to Lexus warranty it talks about platinum, gold warranty etc..
Confused.. thanks for your comments..

Its the same as the bumper to bumper warranty on your BMW, it just doesn't include any maintenance beyond the 5,000 mile and 10,000 mile services. Any warranty coverage you would purchase would be for after when the 4 year 50k mile bumper to bumper warranty runs out.

SW13GS is correct. Think of it as two separate things. You have a warranty and you have scheduled maintenance. BMW throws in the latter for a few years, but the warranties are basically the same.
Just as an addition, pretty much every warranty in this segment is 4 years / 50k miles. That is bumper to bumper and covers everything except scheduled maintenance and wear items like tires, brake pads, wiper blades, etc. Separate from that is the powertrain warranty, which is 6 years, 70k miles for Lexus. I believe the German brands are only 4yr/50k.
The gold, platinum, etc plans are extensions to your 4 year/50k bumper to bumper warranty. For instance you can pay to bump it to 8 years / 100k or something like that. BMW offers the exact same type of deals where you can buy extra years/miles of warranty.

Thanks for the answers
@Crankshaft.. sorry what is ABS?
@sg021... BMW extended warranty on paper covers stuff, after paying $50 copay each time and it is up to the dealer to decide if it really falls under warranty. Essentially you may not get what you have paid for, it is false advertising on part of BMW. That is what I have been selling my new BMWs in their 3rd year [before the warranty expires].
I am not sure if that is case with Lexus as well or does it truly cover bumper to bumper like the original Lexus warranty?
Now I am a first time Lexus owner [just placed the order for the Nxt], so wondering what to expect with the so called extended warranty from Lexus?

Right on.....on my RX, just after going over approx. 500 miles on the ABS warranty....the chip went out on the driver's rear side and about 1000 miles later the passenger rear side went out.

I've had 5 Lexus vehicles, three of which have been owned to over 100k miles, one has 170k miles on it and the other was about 170k miles. I have never once had an ABS issue, or a sensor fail, etc.
I've also been posting on Lexus forums for over 12-13 years, I have not ready any significant ABS issues. The ABS is covered under the factory bumper to bumper warranty...there is no separate "ABS warranty"
Be sure not to let one person's experience, axe to grind make you think that theres a larger issue at play.

Notice that the Lexus warrantee also continues to 6 years/70k miles for powertrain that the Germans do not.
The Basic 4 year/50k miles is similar but if you are not leasing then you get this extra term coverage.
PS, agree with SW13GS, ABS systems are near bullet proof, covered underthe policy but not an issue.
