I thought the X3 competes more closely with the NX (along with Q5, RDX, GLC, MKC etc.).from a size and pricing perspective. I know the X1 and Q3 can get pricey when well equipped though. Both segments are hot right now, and for good reason, they are versatile.

I sat in the 2016 X1 last week at the O.C. Int'l Auto Show and—although new styling—still smaller than the NX, and looked smaller, too. I folded down the back seats to see if there was enough room for a bicycle. There was, but it would have been very tight and I would have to probably take the front wheel off, unlike the NX where my bike fits well.

The X3 is the NX competitor, not the X1. The X1 competes with the Q3 and GLA which are all several inches smaller than the NX, while the NX competes with the main competitors X3, Q5, MKC, RDX, and GLC all within a couple inches of each other. Since the X1 encroaches on the NX in price with similar equipment, it will naturally be cross-shopped by most people as you have done. In any event, congrats on your X1 and enjoy your ride.

Yep you are right the NX is bigger in size

I dont know about that trunk space for lexus though.. seems like they would be more similar. Maybe specs from lexus are wrong?

Thanks man. It was certainly a challenge deciding between the 2. Very close competitors and both very good vehicles. These 2 vehicles leave mercedes, audi, and everyone else in the dust.

Yes, they are "wrong". Lexus' mistake is stating the cargo behind the seats up to the tonneau cover whereas the competition states it to the ceiling. See: https://www.clublexus.com/forums/nx-...the-mulch.html

I wonder if Lexus will correct/revise this information? You wouldn't think they would want to be at a perceived disadvantage in this area.

I had actually ruled the NX out due to the BIG difference in the behind the 2nd row seats capacity...like 17 NX vs 29 Q5. I told my wife I was going to make a point of letting the dealer know so perhaps they can pass that info along. Too bad...probably costs them a customer or two...TomMartin

I raised this to Lexus Customer Service months back here but I still see the unrealistic Honda Fit-sized 17.6 cu ft of cargo listed on lexus.com in the '16 specs. I've asked for an update.
