Hi all,
I am a first time Lexus owner. So i don't know how the oil change "system" works for Lexus.![Egads!](https://www.clublexus.com/forums/images/smilies/pat.gif)
I received an email remind me to schedule for oil change from the dealer i bought the nx. I've been reading from this forum and saw everyone mentioned about the 5k and 10k oil change. But my car only 2600 miles on it. I bought it in May.
Am i suppose to wait until 5k to do the oil change or whichever comes first, 5 months or 5k? Also will the car pop up the message remind me the time comes? I know my Acura txs does.
Thanks very much for your help.

Time period oil changes only apply if your car isn't driven much. Usually its 1 year or your oil change cycle, whichever happens first. My Camaro is driven 2-3k miles a year, so every spring I change the oil.
For your NX, the 5k to 10k is a debate that will go into too many discussions that most of us dont' care to read lol
Your manual will tell you the duration, which is 10k miles. So every 10k miles if you decide. Some of us, like myself, prefer a shorter interval, so we do 5k miles.
Their emails are simply set on a time period and have no knowledge of what your car is at. Follow your odometer.

I started getting those emails at around 2500 but just ignored them until I actually hit 5k.. I did choose to have the oil changed at 5k. Lexus didn't pay for it since it was my choice. The 10k one they will cover. But I am one of those guys that will do every 5k.. Is it necessary? I have no clue but it makes ME feel better to do it at 5k intervals.
