You can unpair your phone and re-pair it for phone use only, not as a media device. There is also an option in Android phones under the Bluetooth menu to not connect media audio.

I have the solution! At least this is how it works in my 2015 ES. This problem exists in many cars, but the Lexus radio allows separate phone and audio bluetooth connects which is perfect for this situation.
Cick MENU, then BLUETOOTH, then select YOUR PHONE, then on the lower left click on the box that says DEVICE INFO. WHere it says "Connect Audio Player from" select DEVICE.
Now when you start the car, the audio bluetooth will not automatically connect. If you wish to use it while driving, you can navigate to your phone and click connect audio.
Hope this works for you in the NX. BTW, I am considering the NX or the RX for my wife.

Thanks for the suggestion. you are right that way the iphone will connect only when i do so. unfortunately i wish to have the auto-connectivity ON since it is easier but at the same time avoid the auto-play thing!
i dont think there is a fix for that now.

I believe this is a function within the phone itself. Android apps have the option to disable auto-play through bluetooth. Perhaps try this: https://discussions.apple.com/thread/2815819?tstart=0

On my Android HTC One M8 I have a small free app which prevents autoplay after BT connect: "Bluetooth connect and stop play" by Carl Parziale. The phone audio connects to the BT and starts playing but immediately receives a PAUSE signal so the play stops. 99% of the time I hear nothing.

I wish that also! I have a Samsung Galaxy S5 (Phone works great & I don't change phones every time one comes out!) it works fine to bring up email / text's but then the screen says read (or) ignore?
I wish you could just use voice commands to do either. After that, I wouldn't care. But it is distracting to have to use the touch pad to go to either choice!
