I noticed the other day that the power trunk does not stop when there is an obstruction or pressure applied in the opposite direction. Is there any way to enable this? It seems like a pretty significant safety concern.

I sacrificed my hand when I opened it in the garage and realized it was going to hit the garage door at the current setting. I think I had to hit the close button for it to stop applying pressure. Nothing broken, but yeah, wasn't enjoyable.
I'm kinda worried that the dealer might accidentally reset that trunk open height setting during a maintenance and I open it and it hits the garage door.

There is a safety stop mechanism, but it seems to require a lot of force to activate.
The NX appears to have the power mechanism built into the struts, which also makes the gate very difficult to operate manually. In my past experiences with power lift gates, there is usually a separate closing arm.

Anyone know if the dealer can adjust the sensitivity of the force required to stop the power gate? If it requires more force that I applied, I could see it seriously injuring an adult, let alone a child.

Tried stopping it during the closing/downward motion too, and it didn't work (or requires quite a bit of force). It would definitely injure someone if they were not prepared.

It would be nice to be able to deactivate the feature all together. It came on my F sport as an option I did not really care about but the car the had already had this feature. After using it a few months I find it annoying because it takes so long to open or close the hatch. Manually is much quicker, just close or open the hatch.

As per NX Owner's Manual:

I haven't done this, but if you turn of the power option of opening and closing the rear door, doe it still require a herculean effort to push it open or pull down to close it?

I did too, at first. Then I stopped using the hatch button that's on the hatch. I push the button on the dash before I get out, and I use the button on the key fob long before I get tot he car with groceries, or whatever.
Once I reprogrammed myself to use an auto-hatch correctly, it's always fully open when I get to it. No longer annoying, and much better than trying to open any hatch manually with an arm-full of junk. Ditto getting out in the rain, and needing something out of the rear. It's open when I get to it, and I hit a button, and walk away while it closes. No standing in the rain.
I think a lot of these modern features seem worthless until people learn how to use them.
Cheers.
