lane departure system
hello fellow Lexus owners.
I have an IS and NX model but on the NX model, the lane departure system needs to be turned on every time i start the car but the IS is on all the time. Is that how it works on the NX?

For what it is worth, the lane departure alert system on my ES, like with your IS, is enabled at all times unless I manually disable it.
I would suggest calling a Lexus dealer and talking with their technology specialist to make sure that there isn't some custom setting that is set in such a way as to alter the default behavior of the system to require you to turn the LDA alert on each time you start the vehicle. I checked the settings in my ES and couldn't find any such setting, but I could be missing something.
I suspect that the reason why you aren't getting much response to your thread is that, for some reason, Lexus is shipping virtually none of the NX equipped with the LDA (or Lexus safety system). I've been looking to buy an NX, but I want the LDA and safety system, and none of the Lexus dealers within several hundred miles of my location have gotten any NX at all with LDA and the Lexus safety system delivered to them for months. So, I'm guessing that very few of those who post here have an NX with the LDA.

Wait for the 2018 refreshed NX. It's getting the Lexus Safety System+ which will make all the safety features standard. I wonder if they will give the 2018 NX the upgraded systems like in the GS and RX, where it will do full stop cruise control (instead of deactivating at 20 mph) and lane keep assist (actively keep the car in the lane rather than just lane departure alert). This is great for driving on the freeway and in traffic.
Also, fyi, my 2017 ES supposedly has the Safety System+. With the LDA, it does have the steering assist, and the manual says that automatic braking and pedestrian detection are supposed to work if the car's speed is at least 7 mph (but I haven't been interested in testing to see if that is actually the case).

That may well be what I end up doing. From reading the posts here, it looks like the LDA and Safety System are readily available to buyers in Canada, but I don't understand why Lexus is not building the NX with those features for the US (even though they are, according to the Lexus website, supposedly available in the US). It is also hard for me to understand why those features (and others) are standard on a Toyota RAV 4 costing $10000+ less than an NX and one can't even buy an NX with them.

Lexus Safety System + is different on the IS and ES than the GS and RX. GS and RX have all-speed cruise control (0-109 mph) and LDA with lane keep assist. When both are switched on, it provides a bit of autonomy (not like Tesla level though). The wheel will turn to follow the lines on the freeway (only slight turns) and will come to a complete stop when traffic jams start. When traffic starts up again, all you have to do is tap the cruise control stalk or step on the gas.
While LDA in the IS and ES only provide correction when it senses you about to cross the lane lines; adaptive cruise control switches off at 25mph.
Lexus makes it confusing by giving the systems the same name, but they aren't the same.

Unfortunately, everytime I want to use the LDA, I have to activate it on the steering wheel. My Build was one of the first back in Nov 2014, so it probably hasnt changed since then if yours requires activation also. Because of this, I hardly use it and my wife NEVER uses it.

They just recently started making these safety features standard on the RAV4. Lexus was probably just waiting for facelift time to offer it on the NX.

I have the adaptive cruise control on my NX. I tried it out this morning. While there was traffic, the car would slow down and come to a complete stop if traffic is at a standstill. When it was time to move, I had to press on the gas pedal or hit the cruise control stalk.
I wished the NX had the upgraded LKA though.

That's interesting...because the NX brochures/feature list doesn't mention the option of All-Speed Dynamic Radar Cruise Control for the 2015-2016MY; it does for the 2017MY. I was under the impression that the 2015-2016MY NX only slow down to 25mph like in the ES. Lexus has way too many different iterations of safety systems under the same name. They need to either make them uniform in features or have different names.

I agree, dchar!
it always confused me when people said they couldn't get it on their '15 , but I do indeed have it.
Now, I did special order my F Sport, so maybe it's that most '15s didn't ship that way - at least, not to the Midwest...? Not sure about that, but it was definitely available on that MY.
With Lexus Safety System+, we should start seeing better consistency and standardization across the line-up.
Best!
