I want to install a tow hitch receiver for my 2017 NX but local dealership said that they cannot just install the tow hitch receiver for me without a tow package and I was told that the tow package should be installed by the manufacture by the time the car was made and it cannot be added now. I read some of the threads here and I noticed people added the tow package from the dealership though. I am so confuse and really want to know if the dealership can or cannot add the tow package?

You definitely can add a hitch after buying the car without the tow package. Check out etrailer.com -- its a good place to start -- if you plan to do it yourself or a local rack shop (rack'n' road is an option) if you want to have it installed for you (its not too difficult with the proper tools). I personally like the curt brand hitch for the NX because its pretty hidden. Search the hitch thread to see the other brands and how they look mounted onto the car to find one that fits your needs/ aesthetic.

IIRC, the hitch reciever is not too expensive and easy to install. The wiring for the trailer lights is much more involved. There has been at least one person on here that installed the hitch and wiring. Here is a thread on the receiver install.

Wiring is discussed in this thread.

agreed, if you just want to install a hitch for a bike carrier or something like that, it's easy to do yourself (ideally, get a friend for a second set of hands)
if you're planning on towing something and need the wiring for the lights, then it's more complicated
