Default carbon buildup NX runs too rich

HI,

The NX has significantly more carbon buildup on the tailpipe than all other cars from that same year and milage.

This car runs too rich!

Is there a tuning to turn this righ mixture setting down a little bit so that I don't have to clean my exhaust tail pipes every freaking week!?

I drove like a Grandma (under 90 kph) for a week and it make no freaking difference, I don't idle more than 30 secs (red light).

For a comparaison, my neighbor owns a HONDA CR-V with a TURBO and I can't see any signs of carbon on his pipe at all! Also, If I go to a used car parking lot, the NX standout right away for the carbon buildups

Out of curiosity, what part of the intake do you change?

The AEM cold air intake. I will install the charge pipe next week. I will let you know if it's even better.

Its worse... I tired. I just hope its not a engine problem where they designed the piston smaller for better fuel economy but engine oil leaks out as a consequence.

Long terme this will clog up all your valves and ports no matter how you step on that pedal.

I also tried using the same gas station and fuel on both cars (Using 87 octone on NX) , NX end up spewing carbon no matter what.

Tiguan looks worse in the pictures. But dont forget they got the Diesel gate scandel for it.

Uh no...it's a result of being a turbocharged engine. They typically run richer at WOT for the cooling effect of the extra fueling to prevent knock compared to a naturally aspirated vehicle. The more aggressive they are with boost, the more fuel, the more soot. It is NOT oil, it is carbon build up from a rich fuel burn.

Also, the NX needs 91...don't run 87, just going to dump more fuel in to counter knock, more soot.

Anything else you'd like to complain about today?

My NX and my Audi Q3 show signs of soot in the exhaust pipe as they are both 2.0 turbocharged engines.

This normal soot from turbocharged engines has been a cause of concern for some prospective buyers, so now many of the manufacturers are placing pristine, but only decorative exhaust outlets at the rear of the car while the actual exhaust pipes are pointed downward forward of the aft bumper.

It looks kind of funny on cold mornings when the steam is rising from under the car. Some love the pristine, but "fake" exhaust, others hate it and won't buy the car because of it.

I also question whether this is really a fair comparison. You are comparing two vehicles with decorative chrome exhaust tips against one without. You might be surprised at how much soot is visible on the Yaris if it had a chrome exhaust tip. My last two naturally aspirated (non hybrid) engines had some similarnsoot that I always had to clean off when I washed the car. Currently, neither of our hybrids have decorative tips so I can't offer any current comparison.

You have measured carbon buildup on all other car from the same year? All? Must have taken a very long time..

if it is too rich...I have melted/blown up 2 out of 3 catalytic converters in a different vehicle because of rich/excess fuel and the cats that got destroyed ended up getting sucked back in my v8 and blew half my cylinders...was a very expensive fix but happened under warranty...so imo this is important topic due to my past experience w/different auto.
