Default Black trim piece coming unstuck near front tire

Anyone else having an issue with the small black trim piece coming off the car behind the front tires? I noticed mine is on the driver's side today. Looks like double sided tape is holding it down beside the screws in the wheel well. It's only a bit over a year old so I am surprised.

Don't get me started on the cheap plastic trim. After a fender repair and replacement of the trim, it took 6 visits to the shop to get the stuff to stop peeling off.

I had to have the insurance assessor inspect it after the 5 th attempt because I thought the shop was incompetent.

His opinion was that it was a Lexus design issue. Screws hold the plastic piece in the wheel well and double sided tape tries to overcome the lateral tension of the plastic piece to keep it in place against the fender. Unless the piece is factory fitted it is very difficult to achieve and maintain a flush fit with the replacement kit. In the end they modified the fitment and got a 95% acceptable job.

I've read in other posts that people living in hot humid climates are experiencing spontaneous peeling.

A friend bought a new landrover discovery the other day and its clear the fender bits are tightly held on by clips.

What was Lexus thinking.

I had an appointment this past Wednesday at my Lexus dealer to get that exact trim piece fixed on the drivers side. Just pushing it back in place would not hold, and I tried that numerous times. That's all they did on my first trip that day.
It took two trips to the dealer that day...but they finally replaced the clip that holds the trim piece on which fixed the problem.
I was not a happy camper making two trips that day with a 45 minute drive each way.

Oh goody I can't wait to deal with this! I stuck it back on and it's holding for now, but we shall see. I do live in FL so the heat doesn't help like you said. I need to go in this week for something else so we shall see if it's still on then. I may just try my own fix. I really wish they hadn't done the plastic at all as it looks cheap and discolors in time.
